Working with an Exhibit Designer

An exhibit designer can be an important element in your overall trade show success. It's no longer necessary to go with a full-scale "exhibit house" company for your overall booth development. An independent designer can be much more cost effective, easier to work with, more flexible, and provide only the services you want to pay for.

If you use the services of an exhibit designer, it's important to shop around to be sure you're getting one who understands your company and product, your trade show goals, and is willing to provide good value for your budget.

This type of professional is a specialist in trade show booth display conceptualization. Some provide only that service, while others get involved in the construction of the display and sometimes even assist with other aspects of your trade show success.

Having the opportunity to receive bids for each aspect of your trade show exhibit design and construction puts you in the driver's seat. Not long ago, exhibit houses handled every aspect of trade show booth development and it wasn't possible to separate out the services they provided. That made it difficult to get a good deal on any of it.

If you do decide to go with separate vendors for design, construction, marketing, and any other aspects of your booth, be sure they are all compatible working together.

An exhibit designer will have at least one initial meeting with you, to discuss your goals and objectives, your ideas for a booth theme, the products you plan to highlight, graphics, market research, and your competitors. It's helpful to have photos, product literature, and anything else that may help the designer understand your needs and vision.

You can solicit bids from more than one designer, and compare their ideas and quotes.

Negotiating a lower price may be possible in some cases, if you like a particular designer but can't afford his or her services. However, a reduced bid may result in reduced quality.
