Getting Estimates from Your
Trade Show Exhibit Builder

A detailed estimate from your trade show exhibit builder is an essential part of selecting the company you'll work with.

You'll need to compare estimates carefully, to be sure of exactly what features the company's price covers.

You'll also need to determine what kind of builder you need. See Types of Trade Show Exhibit Builders - Which of the seven types of exhibit builders is right for you?

Once you've determined the type of builder you need, here are some items to be sure are included in the quote:

Items for Booth Builders' Estimates

  1. Itemization of all components included in the booth estimate. Be sure the estimate includes a description and quantity of each item, and either individual pricing for each of a lump sum pricing for the whole group.

  2. Carpet. What kind of carpet, and how much do they project for cutting and preparing it for your booth? What expenses and logistics will be involved in storing, maintaining, and shipping it?

  3. Surface finishes. What surfacing will each part of your exhibit have?

  4. Graphics. Request a fairly detailed description of the type and quantity of graphics proposed, and and the cost per item.

  5. Booth lighting. Be sure your estimate includes details about your exhibit lighting - what type and quantity, whether wiring will be needed, cost of bulbs for the suggested type of lighting. Some types of light bulbs are far more expensive than others, so if you're watching your exhibit expenses closely, be sure the trade show exhibit builders' idea of lighting for your booth doesn't include unnecessarily costly bulbs.

  6. In-booth storage. Specify how much storage space your booth needs, and what types of items will be stored. Be sure the description of your display components includes storage details.

  7. Storage service. Will the builder be storing your exhibit? If so, be sure to find out what their fee is. And if you choose to have your exhibit stored away from your own premises, be sure it's adequately insured.

  8. Trial trade show booth setup. You'll need to have the trade show exhibit builders set up your booth as a trial run before using it an any shows. Be sure the fee for this setup service is included in your estimate.

  9. Handling or processing fees. If the trade show exhibit builder will be getting your components ready for shipping, be sure to find out whether they charge a handling fee for that service.

These items will help you find the best price for your booth construction. But price alone should not be your only criterion when interviewing a builder. Look also for the company that understands your needs the best, has a good track record, and offers you solutions that are compatible with your goals and your corporate culture.
